The Social Life

Homeschool Magazine

A Magazine created by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers

 

The purpose of The Social Life is to provide encouragement, information, and inspiration to homeschoolers across East Texas as well as offering a venue for homeschooled students to publish their work.

 

The price will be $12.00 for a 12 month subscription. The Social Life will be published monthly. Please send a check or money order to The Social Life PO BOX 57, Joinerville TX, 75658. Make checks payable to The Social Life. We also accept PayPal. Please visit the "To subscribe/contribute" page of this site to pay with PayPal. Please include the address you would like your subscription mailed to.

 

We need your submissions and the submissions of your children and teens, to make this newsletter work.

We will have a lot of different ideas for submissions we would like to recieve, here are a few…

 

From  children and teens we would love to receive…

 

Artwork – This can be a painting or drawing, or a photo of a sculpture or mobile etc. You may send the artwork or photo of the artwork via USPS, or you can scan it, or photograph it and send it digitally via email.

 

Short Stories, Essays, Poems, -- You can send any of these via email, or USPS. Please type or write very neatly.

 

Book Reports and Reviews, Concert, Play, Dance, & Movie Reviews – You can send any of these via email, or USPS. Please type or write very neatly. In addition to the standard information, for these types of submissions we will need the Title, Author, Actors/Performers, Date of publication or performance, and in the case of a performance –location.

 

Pets – We would like to receive photos and descriptions of your pet

.

Interviews – We would like to receive interviews you have done with people about homeschooling, or history, or any other subject of interest.

 

Science Projects – We would like to receive photos and lab reports of science projects you have completed and enjoyed.

 

Awards – Tell us about rewards you have received.

 

Reports – We would love for you to be a reporter and tell us all about activities you attend for homeschoolers. Tell us when, where, who, why, and what your opinion of the activity is.

 

Photos – We will print photos you have taken, you can send them USPS, or via email.

 

Crafts – Photos of craft projects with details explaining how we can make one too.

 

 

From adults (teens can pitch in here too) we would like to receive submissions in these areas…

 

Curriculum/Book Reviews – Tell us about a great book you have read or curriculum you used, what did you love about it? Please include Title, Author, and copyright date.

 

Movie Reviews

 

Upcoming activities in your area, please include date, time, place, and contact information.

 

Tell us about past activities you attended.

 

Favorite Quotes

 

Favorite Recipes (send us pictures of the dish!)

 

Photos of homeschoolers having fun together.

 

Favorite Scriptures and what they mean to you.

 

A Day in The Life – Tell us what a typical day or week is like in your Homeschool.

 

Questions – Submit your questions, and we’ll try to find answers

 

Tips and Ideas you may want to share with others, as well as answers for the reader questions.

 

How Do YOU… -- Tell us how YOU teach a child to read or teach high school biology, or teach multiple grade levels, or anything else you think would be of interest to others.

 

We would also love to hear from Homeschool graduates, and parents of Homeschool graduates. What is it like for a homeschooler after graduation?

 

 

Now for all the legal and technical stuff….

 

Please understand that we will not be able to return submissions so be sure to make a copy for yourself, or in the case of artwork, scan it or photograph it and submit that, for while we will be happy to accept the original work, we will not be able to return it.

For submissions by minors:

 

Please include your Name, age, home address, phone number, and email address. You may send a photo of yourself if you would like it to be published with your submission.

For art and Photos place the information on the back of each piece. Please don’t fold art and photos. For all art, poems, and stories and essays, This statement Must be written on each submission: “This will certify that the above work is completely original,” and sign your name.

 

Label all stories and essays fiction or nonfiction and include a title.

 

Type or write carefully in ink.

 

Writing may be edited; we reserve the right to publish our version without prior approval.

 

Your name, and age will be published along with your submission. We will not publish your phone number, email, or home address, however we do need that information for our records.

 

For submissions by adults:

 

We will need your name, home address, phone number, and email address. Your name and city will be published with your submission.

We will publish a photo of you with your submission if you include one with your submission. Your home address, phone number, and email address will not be published, but will be kept for our records.

 

Type or write carefully in ink.

 

Writing may be edited; we reserve the right to publish our version without prior approval.

 

 

All works submitted by minors or adults become the property of The Social Life and all copyrights are assigned to The Social Life. We retain the non-exclusive rights to publish all such works in any format. All material in The Social Life is copyrighted to protect us and exclude others from republishing your work. All contributors retain the right to their work and may submit it elsewhere as they choose.
